Hey Pit  very cool .  makes me miss flying even more .  But  hehehe  I am also building my next plane ,, A tiger moth replica . i have all the wing ribs completed ,, and stored.  I was going to make an attempt to build the spars , however i calculated the space i need to do it and ran short.  I am hoping to get larger quarters back in the states here in 9 months,  If so i will continue to build.  I am excited to get this next one completed and flying .  I also have other plans for future aircraft to build . I mite have a fleet in a few years Smiley

Good example of what the ROF N28 is like, which was the true home for that engine. Putting that in a Camel changed it's character immensely. Although the vast majority of Camels had throttled rotaries like the 130 HP Clerget modeled in ROF, I do think there were some American Camels that had either that same Gnome engine (160 HP) or one rated at around 150 HP.

If that thing was running flat out, it sure didn't seem to be working too well. It was missing a lot if it was set to run on all cylinders...not like the ROF N28 on all 9. Maybe the mixture wasn't optimized or he was afraid to run it lean and either (1) starve it and crash or (2) damage it through excess heat or lack of oil. I read once that the real pilots often ran them on the rich side, so that when they got into a fight and inevitably dropped in altitude, the engine would tend to run more correctly as they dropped. In other words they were ready to dive at all times, whether to pursue or escape.
